Emoticon Legend Concept Mockup

$eStunt was asking for ideas for a new emoticon legend, so here's mine

Version 1 - New stuff:

• Easier access - Use emoticons straight out of the deviant starting blocks with simple click-to-insert functionality. For more experienced deviants, the old code can still be used straight in the message as usual.


• Better sorting - gone is the useless "original" sort order, but sorting by popularity, alphabetical order and creator are still available through the buttons on the bottom left of expanded mode. Sorting is saved - so the last sort options you select when you leave are the first you get when you return!


• Search, don't sort - with the new tagged emoticon system - just click the magnifying glass button in expanded mode and get exactly what you want without looking through long lists!


• Better access - Why go to a seperate window when you can find your emotes in the same place as you're typing? Now you can!


• More exposure - Emoticonists can now finally be recognised! The creator of each emote shows up below the insertion code when a deviant hovers over any of the emotes for a short time.


• Your emoticons, your way - Don't like the new system? Go back to a list-style display using the button panel in expanded mode.

Version 2 - Updates:

• Your favourite emotes, right where you need them - Choose which emoticons are shown at the top of the list by favouriting the best! The top bar is reserved alone for the new emoticon favourites system. Add an emote to your faves by dragging it to where you want it on the favourites bar! Unfavourite it again by dragging an emoticon off again.

Version 3 - Moar updates!

• Functionality added for dAmn - Now you can have the convenience of the new system while you chat! To keep it compact, the view buttons have been reduced down to only those that are necessary - but who has time to use search while chatting anyway? When collapsed, the emoticon bar is completely hidden from view.


• Keep It Simple, Stupid! - The golden rule of design! As such, I've made the dAmn version even simpler. There's no popup box when you hover over an emoticon. Instead, the code for the emote is shown in the input box at the insertion point, but is not permanently inserted until you click on one.


• "I don't like it!" - No problem, you can still type the codes in as usual!
